I was reading an article in the Country Living Magazine and came across something I wasn't aware of.
Habitat for Humanity has over 500 salvage and resale shops in the country. These resale shops stock everything from gently used appliances and surplus tile to new flooring and cabinetry, sold at a fraction of the normal price. According to the article in Country Living, all are donated by local citizens and businesses.
To visit a Habitat Restore, go to www.habitat.org and click on Restore. From there you can find a Habitat Restore near you. Because these kinds of thing are hit or miss, visit often! Proceeds from ReStores, help local affiliates fund the construction of Habitat houses within the community.

Wow... I didn't know that. Thanks for the heads up. I have to look into this. :-)
Susan the one in Lancaster is great! A number of builders and contractors will donate what they don't need, and homeowners who are renovating an older home also do the same. So, it's a great place to find new stuff from toilets and cabinets that might have been ordered in the wrong colors or sizes, to older doorknobs and handles for those who are renovating an older home and want the stuff to match to the age of the home.
My husband renovated an old building a few years ago, and found a brand new granite countertop there, as well as new cabinets that fit perfectly in the space he wanted. I'm sure he found more stuff, but those are the two that stick out in my mind.
Thanks for the info!
There is one near our office. I haven't had a need to go there yet.
Susan - Habitat Restores are a great place to both buy and get rid of home materials that are in good shape. Among other things, I have purchased doors, lighting and a whirlpool tub at ours.
We have one of them in Toms River... Never been there... but I have driven by! (PS: I knocked on wood this morning and thought of YOU!)
Susan, you continually enlighten me. I didn't know about these stores or definitely how many there are around the country. Another great way to drive funding their way.
C, there were a number of them located in New York State, though I am not familiar enough to know if any are close to NYC!
Jeannie, Thanks for this! I had no idea about this until I saw the article!
Mel and Gary, there are several in Texas and one in Dallas, so there may be one near you. Mel, this should appeal to Tony's, well, how shall we put it, thriftiness!
Laura, you should check it out. I am going to check out the one in Lancaster, or in Reading when I am up visiting my son in Kutztown!
Rob, ironically enough, I now think of you too, when I knock on wood! Pretty scary!
Susan,
And who doesn't like a bargain...!!! Thanks, Fran
Alright and thanks for this! As an avid supporter and volunteer with Habitat for Humanity I always like to see help for the organization and it is always good to find a great deal!
Fran, these days, a bargain is all we can afford!
Russell, I thought of you when I posted this, as I know this is near to your heart. There are several of these locations in Texas, you should check it out. xxoo
Susan, I've heard about the one in Coatesville and would love to get there.
I was unaware of this myself, thanks for the heads up.
FYI - I am going to reblog this, as it is great information and much needed in today's economy. Thanks, Susan!
Well Susan, I love this organization AND I love to shop. Thanks for sharing this info, hopefully I will find one near me. : )
Susan - Thanks for keeping us informed. I will bookmark for future reference.
I have one of these in my area and I just love it. They have often had some really cool overstock or slightly damaged bargains.
Happy Valentine's Day Susan. I love you sweetie!!
Really interesting Susan. I am off to check for my area. Thanks.
Gary, And I love you too! xxoo
Janice, I sent this to my neighbors, and one of them has a sister that works in the Coatesville store!
JL, thanks for your support as always, my sweet adopted boy!
Jeannie, thanks for the reblog!
Chris, I hope you find one near you too!
Hi Sharon! Thanks!
Tammy, I've never heard of them before but I am going to check out the one in Coatesville!
Paddy, thanks! xxoo
Hi Susan! Our Re-Store here is a great place for sellers to pick up a few items to help stage their home if they can't afford a stager. They can either sell the items to the buyer or after the sale, donate them back. It's a very cheap place to find these types of items and it's a great way to give back to your community!
Hi Susan...What a good link to have. Thanks for sharing. I will certainly check it out and mention it to others.
