I still cannot believe that it's near the end of January in 2012!! My life, it seems is whizzing by and I have lots to be thankful for. I have only to think about my older son, who is scheduled to graduate from Kutztown in May to see how fast my life is whizzing. It seems like yesterday that I tearfully hugged him goodbye. He's doing well and I'm very proud of him and his little brother, who towers over me at 5'11"! Don't tell him I said that though, because to his face I act as if he still isn't taller than I am!
I got a call yesterday from a man who volunteers with me at Meals on Wheels. He is giving me two week's notice because due to health reasons and an impending operation, he will be unable to continue to volunteer. I won't name him so that I do not embarrass him, but he's been volunteering since 2001. He is 85 years old and every single Friday he delivers meals on wheels to home bound individuals. Wow. Wow. Just wow. I thanked him for his years of service and I pray his surgery goes well. I can't even begin to convey how thankful I am for people like him.
Anyone who is sitting around feeling sorry about getting a little older should think of him, at 85, delivering meals on wheels to some people who are probably a lot younger than he is.
I'm also thankful to the person who just called my cell phone, asking for me with the most imaginative pronunciation of my last name yet. It always cracks me up. Years ago, in the old days before computers, we real estate agents use to have to call each listing office to show properties. I would have to spell my name to the duty agent who answered the phone and however they spelled it back; I used to say "that's right". When the listing agent would them call me for feedback, and try to pronounce my name however the duty agent spelled it, this always gave me a chuckle. Maztigiam? That's right! It's always the little things that make a day.
Enjoy your day and as always, Carpe Diem!

The speed at which life moves the older I get is one of the things that amazes me most.
I am thankful for your post. Thought provoking and a call to action all rolled into a couple of hundred words. Thanks for the inspiration and your good deeds
Great post...and a very important reminder to us all to consider that volunteer route...that 85 year old has the right idea, for sure!
Well Mrs. Maztigiam, you inspired me with that 85 year old and HIS volunteering so valiantly over time. We all need to keep going DOING GOOD THINGS as long as we can.... that time flying by thing, I try not to worry about that one too much, just a given in life.
James, from your photo, I'd say I am leagues older than you. Just wait!
Larry, that's nice of you to say. Thank you.
Sea to Sky, that 85 year old is truly an inspiration.
Nikki, you won't believe how fast your girls will grow up. My baby will be 16 in July and I can't believe it. We were driving to the gym last night and we were talking about it. Seems like yesterday I was bringing him home. It goes way too fast.
Gary, doing good things is good for your soul. Love, Mrs. Maztigiam xxoo
Awesome, Susan, great minds think alike, I wrote a post today someone who insprires me as well. Hope you are well
I'll check it out Gerry. I am well. I hope the same for you. xxoo
Susan, You ARE an inspiration. I've enjoyed getting to know you a little better lately. I appreciate a thankful heart and I believe you have one.
Susan,
I wish I had your compassion and energy to help others so effortlessly.
Rich
Names is one of the funniest things that we all have to deal with, great post we all have much to be thankful for, once it was sons shooting up, now it is grandchildren...just got to keep the energy up to keep up with them.
Susan... this 85 year old man is just a real blessing, I am sure. What energy he must have. Wow... delivering all those meals to the shut-ins. And... I have always... always wondered about just exactly how to pronounce your name. My guess is that it is pronounced something like.... Sue... Zn. Am I close ? <impish, crinkly grin>
it flies by. Two days ago was the 5 year anniversary of "move into new office" and it still feels new. Life's lessons have taught me to treasure moments and tell those people we love that we love them as often as we can. I'm so glad you're one of those people that I love.
Judi, thank you. That's a very nice thing to say!
Rich, I'm sure you have it. Just get your nose out of that "dictionary". :-)
Hi Nick and Trudy! I haven't seen you around in a while. Hope to see you soon!
Karen, you got it! suz en. Perfect pronunciation! xxoo
Tammy, I did get this one email notification and it was the first thing I read this morning. What a nice thing to wake up to. I love you right back!
And for the record my name is pronounced Man gig ee in. Like digging in. :-)
Oh...you know how much I love this and it just reminded me that my Father was delivering meals on wheels up to a short time before he died. Not everyone realizes that he gift of giving is a gift we give ourselves!
Hello Susan...
I hope that I can still be helping out when I am 85. That's quite inspiring. And I can't believe that your son will be graduation soon. It seems like just yesterday that you wrote about sending him off to school!
Russell, I know you are one who does realize that the giving is a gift to yourself. xxoo
Hi Richard! The years are flying by!
