Don't feel stuck between a rock and a hard place

I got a call yesterday from a man who is temporarily living with his in-laws.   He didn't seem particularly happy about this turn of events and likened it to being stuck between a rock and a hard place.   If you are looking for a soft place to land and aren't sure if you can buy or rent, and if you can buy, how much of a home you can afford, talk to a real estate agent.

JJ appears to be stuck between a rock and a hard place!

A real estate agent will put you in contact with a mortgage person who will keep your business private and let you know where you stand.  If you need to rent right now, let your agent help you find a place.  Many rentals are listing on the MLS.  If you can buy, the mortgage person will share your price range with your real estate agent and prepare a pre-approval that you will pass on to the seller of the home you decide is "the house of your dreams".

Let me know if I can help.  I won't leave you stuck in a hard place!

Great advice, Susan. But if getting stuck in between the 2 doggies snuggling is what you're talking about, oh boy - I think I want to join their company.

Hi Susan,

I agree with Loreena, this is great advise and it comes with a soft sell.  The picture is a perfect addition to the blog.

Love the photo, and you're right - initiate a conversation with a real estate agent, understand your options and make an informed decision. The bottom line is to take action...remaining "stuck" in this situation becomes a choice...just take a step forward and the rest will follow.

Well said fellow REMAXer Susan!!   Let them know you really care and their info is extremely confidential.  Helping folks out is the best.   Have a great year.

Susan, I agree, a great place to begin is to talk with a Real Estate Agent.

Susan, I have spent the better part of the last couple of days - working on repair quotes on a home my buyer client wants - and needs to get out of a unhealthy rental property. We do have to go above and beyond for our clients.

A great reminder that whether a buyer is or is not confident they can buy a home, their first call should be to a Realtor® who can geve them the names of reputable lenders.

Susan,

When it comes to housing, the absolutely best place to start is with a REALTOR®. BTW...I hope JJ doesn't get a hairball.

Susan, Great advice!  I think many folks who think they could only rent could actually buy if they met with an agent and mortgage specialist.

Loreena, on my reading chair with my dog and two cats and a good book is my favorite stuck place!

Cindy, thank you!

Charlie, people do need to know what their options are.  You don't feel stuck if you have choices.

Bud and Beth, wishing you two fellow RE/MAX agents a great 2012!

David, beginning by sitting down with a good real estate agent is key!

Steve, I know you always go above and beyond for your clients.

Barb, thank you.  Wishing you a great year!

Rich, when I got the twins (my kittens) last year, I really got them as companions for JJ.  I'm not sure, judging by his expression, that he appreciated the gesture!

Liz and Bill, showing someone they can afford a small condo for what they pay in rent is always an exciting proposition.

Hi Jared!  That's JJ, wondering what in the world happened to his happy quiet little home now that there are two cats living there!

Sheila, thanks so much for suggesting!  xxoo

Mary, JJ prefers to have me all to himself.  Who knew?  I got the cats for him!  Wishing you a great year!
